Smart Devices

Smart Devices can be accessed from anywhere, by anyone who has the login details and can be used to monitor your movements or control things within the home.

Before taking any of these safety steps, please consider if it might add to your risk.  If you have any concerns, speak to your ASSIST worker.

Smart devices include:

  • Smart watches and fitness trackers e.g. Apple watch, Fitbit, Garmin, Strava etc
  • Amazon Alexa or Echo, Google Home Hub or similar devices
  • CCTV doorbells
  • Smart TV's and apps e.g. Netflix, Amazon TV, Apple TV, email etc
  • Smart thermostats that control your heating and hot water e.g. Hive, Google Nest etc
  • Sat Nav or any apps that link a smart phone to your car

If you have any of these devices, consider changing your passwords to make them more secure.  If you have a Sat Nav in your car, consider deleting your history if you don't want anyone to know where you have been.
